who is jade?
Jade Magno McGovern (she/her) is a Filipina-American Writer, Director, Producer, and Lighting Designer from New York and currently based in Chicago, Illinois.
Jade is a recent graduate of DePaul University, receiving her BFA in theatre arts with a minor in film production. Her work has been primarily focused in Theatre, but she has branched into Film with her short-film debut, HONEY LEMON, which is currently in post-production.
During her college career, Jade worked on twenty-four theatrical productions, between DePaul’s Theatre School and the student organization Blue Demon Theatre, with roles ranging from: Playwright, Director, Producer, Lighting Designer, Scenic Designer, House Manager, and Stage Manager. Jade’s thesis production, STILL LIFE OF QUEENS, a play written, directed, and produced by Jade played to a sold-out audience for six performances.
Jade made her professional Chicago debut with RhinoFest in the world premiere of COMET where she acted as the Lighting Designer.
Growing up, she found comfort in novels, plays, and films about fictional worlds far grander than our own. From devising a five-act play about the love lives of the squirrels that lived in her backyard with her sister to writing a fantasy novel series about angels fighting the Demons of Florida, Jade has always been creating and collaborating. She is inspired by the strange, the bizarre, and the ways the world works.
Jade’s passion has always lied in the arts and her main goal in life is to inspire others. While the style of her work, designs, and role vary from project to project, one goal connects them: to help support the narrative on stage or screen with each choice in story, direction, or lighting. She strives to do so at the highest possible quality (emotional and literal) and with utmost clarity. In doing all of this, a unique approach is essential. After all, where is the fun in doing something you've already seen before?
